Arne Slot confirms Diogo Jota plan as Liverpool must hold onto timely boost
Arne Slot has outlined his plans for Diogo Jota after he made his first Premier League start in around four months when he played against Wolves.
Liverpool will continue to be careful with Portugal striker Diogo Jota, who made his first start in the Premier League in around four months against his old club Wolves over the weekend.
Arne Slot has confirmed that he won’t start Jota either of Liverpool’s two matches this week. The 28-year-old was in the starting line-up against Wolves but will drop out for one of the games with Aston Villa and Manchester City, with the Reds having the chance to move 10 points clear at the top of the table midweek.
“He has a role like many others,” Slot said during his press conference ahead of facing Aston Villa. “He did so well before his injury and we have missed him for three or four months.
“We have missed the number nine who played the first seven or eight games in every game. Now he is back. He played 60 (minutes versus Wolves) and we don’t expect him to play 90, 90, 90 this week but we hope he is involved in three games.”
