Norwich City head of goalkeeping Tony Roberts says he has a ‘top goalkeeper’ on his hands in Angus Gunn.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at Carrow Road in the summer, prompting discussion among the fan base and questions to head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup over his future.
Thorup has asserted that talks will take place with Gunn before long, but he’s currently free to sign a pre-contract with any foreign club and no progress has yet been made on a new deal.

Roberts believes that the Scottish international is a serious talent, however, and has known as much since early in his career. He prefers to stay out of contract discussions, but can understand why supporters are so fearful of losing their first-choice stopper.
“I’ve known Angus since he was 16, 17, when he was at Manchester City,” he told the Pink Un. “You could see then that he was going to be a good goalkeeper, and he’s a top goalkeeper. Obviously he’s Scotland’s number one.
“He’s still a baby in goalkeeping years, so he’s still got a lot to learn, but we’re happy with him at the moment. Everything’s going well.

Starting with by far the most discussed and publicised, Angus Gunn’s contractual status has become quite the talking point among Canaries supporters.
The Scottish international has been a standout performer in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, building on an impressive loan under Daniel Farke in 2017-18 to become a fan favourite at Carrow Road.
His status as the Norwich born-and-bred son of hall of famer Bryan only adds to that, and it’s understandable that the prospect of losing the 29-year-old is a worrying one. He also qualifies as home grown, is in the rather slim prime age bracket and has proven adequate in the skills Johannes Hoff Thorup demands from his goalkeepers.
But it hasn’t been his best season, and the Dane will be wondering, along with Knapper, whether he could find better value for money elsewhere. Either way Gunn would take some replacing, and that will factor in.
