The Toronto Blue Jays have a tough decision to make with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline. They can hold onto Guerrero, try to win, and try to re-sign the superstar in free agency next off-season. Or they could trade him away, enter a bit of a rebuild, and still try to sign him in free agency. This will likely depend on how competitive the Blue Jays are at the trade deadline. If they find themselves in a race for the division title or a postseason berth, there’s no way they’ll trade Guerrero. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller predicted the Blue Jays would opt to hold onto Guerrero for the entirety of the 2025 season rather than trading him. “Now, the big question has become whether he’ll still be with the Blue Jays in August, or whether they’ll be far enough out of contention to put what would be a massive several-month rental on the trade block, a la Manny Machado in 2018,” Miller wrote.
“They’re not going to trade him before the season, though. “That ship sailed when they invested in the likes of Andrés Giménez, Anthony Santander, Jeff Hoffman, and Max Scherzer. After all those additions, they’re surely at least going to try to contend through the All-Star break before even considering any sort of exit strategy.” With the Blue Jays acquiring all the pieces to win in 2025, it would be shocking to see them at the bottom of the American League East. With that in mind, it makes sense to hold onto Guerrero. But if Toronto is lost at the deadline, trading its superstar for a huge haul of prospects wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Will Wagner might not have a position, but if the 26-year-old keeps hitting the way he did last season, it’s not going to matter. The Blue Jays will find creative ways to get him into the lineup.

Prospect Jake Bloss was viewed as the key return for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi with outfielder Joey Loperfido close behind. Wagner was the third piece in what appeared to be an impressive haul.
