Ruud van Nistelrooy lays out Brian Barry-Murphy role as double sacking heightens his influence.
The Leicester City manager discusses the role of his first-team coach, who joined the club just before Christmas after a few years with Manchester City’s development squad.
First-team coach Brian Barry-Murphy is doing an “excellent job” at Leicester City with his influence set to grow following the decision to streamline Ruud van Nistelrooy’s backroom team.
City axed first-team coach Ben Dawson and goalkeeping coach Danny Alcock at the start of this week, described as the “best solution” by van Nistelrooy.
There is no intention to add any more coaches, meaning those already at the club should see their roles grow in importance.

Barry-Murphy came in just before Christmas having left his role as head coach of Manchester City’s development squad last summer, a position in which he succeeded Enzo Maresca.
He has been seen delivering instructions to City players from the technical area on matchday but it’s on the training ground where he is most influential.
“He’s a great coach,” van Nistelrooy said in January. “I wanted him to be part of my team, because of his experience, because he can translate a certain way of playing, call it the game model, into a training model.
“(He oversees) specific drills and exercises in small, medium or larger groups that are specifically designed to get certain qualities trained. That’s vital that you have somebody like that on board.
“He’s doing an excellent job, also with his experience on the touchline. But especially on the training pitch.”
It means there are now just four members in van Nistelrooy’s coaching team, and will be for the remainder of the season.
They are Barry-Murphy, first-team coach Andy King, set-piece coach Andrew Hughes, and goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar
