It’s clearly a key area of focus for Paul Mitchell, along with that elusive right-winger signing, and another name has been linked in recent days.
Newcastle eyeing another Bournemouth star?
It looks like Newcastle United have another Bournemouth star in mind as we head into the summer transfer window with (hopefully) money to spend.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are one of the clubs showing interest in Dean Huijsen alongside Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
The 19-year-old has had an outstanding first season in the Premier League and isn’t the only Cherries centre-back thought to be on our radar, with the i’s Mark Douglas previously reporting on our interest in Illia Zabarnyi.
Speaking on his Youtube channel on all things transfers, Romano said: “Chelsea are one of several clubs interested in Dean Huijsen, then there is interest in Bayern Munich. Also Newcastle are showing interest in Huijsen.
“They are doing very well and in case they are in the Champions League next season, investment in a centre-back could be made and Huijsen is one of the players they are monitoring.
“He has a release clause in his contract valid in the summer, so Huijsen will be, for sure, one to watch in the summer transfer window.”
Missed opportunity last summer?
While the club were locked in ultimately unsuccessful talks with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi, Bournemouth pulled off one of the signings of the summer in Dean Huijsen.
Newcastle were linked with the Dutch-born defender prior to his move to Eddie Howe’s former club, but it was the Cherries who snuck in and sealed a £15m deal.
Six months later it’s been suggested that his summer release is around £55m meaning Bournemouth stand to make an immediate profit of £40m should he leave.
