Nottingham Forest get the last laugh after what has just happened with Santiago Gimenez..
Nottingham Forest tried and failed to sign a number of players during the summer transfer with a new striker the order of the day.
Evangelos Marinakis has been keen to land a striker for two transfer windows. The Reds are looking for more competition for places with the team currently sitting in third place in the Premier League table.
Back in the summer, the need for a striker was concerning. Nobody anticipated that Chris Wood would be in red hot form once again, whilst fitness doubts were cast over the Kiwi’s backup striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Eddie Nketiah rejected Forest after chatting to Oliver Glasner. That might be a lucky escape from a Forest perspective, however, with the Crystal Palace player yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this season.
Forest have been left frustrated in their efforts to land a striker. However, things will almost certainly change in the summer with the Reds set to have European football as an incentive for any new players to move to the City Ground.
Santiago Gimenez suffers major twist of irony months after Forest decision
Gimenez rejected Forest on three occasions during the summer. In fairness, he wanted to taste Champions League football after brilliantly helping Feyenoord reach the competition last season with 25 goals.
However, it was always clear that Gimenez would get his move elsewhere at some point. That time came in January when the Mexican striker swapped Rotterdam for Milan to become the new talisman at the San Siro.
Ironically, his Champions League participation is now over. He bagged another goal for his new club last night against his former club but the 1-1 draw means that Milan are out of the competition at the expense of Feyenoord..
